Outreach

I have been involved in various aspects of outreach and public engagement since taking a part-time job at the Royal Observatory Edinburgh Visitor Centre during my undergraduate degree. That experience, 20 years ago, was truly transformative in how I came to see academia and research.

Since then, I have designed, prepared or delivered over 200 events, ranging from talks, schools workshops, planetarium shows, open science days/nights, teacher training, training of academics in outreach, and more.

From 2016-2021, I co-directed the Education and Public Outreach (E/PO) group for SDSS.

Currently, I lead a project with national partners that trains Science secondary school teachers in the UK and abroad to use SDSS data and SDSS plug plates in the classroom. We are working on a Plates for Education UK dedicated website. In the meantime, you can learn a little about Plates for Education here, and contact me or the project for further details.
